Hi, Y’all!

Everyone has a story.

It was those four, seemingly simple words – that I heard for the first time in the basement of the WKU Student Publications building in 2011 during the Xposure Journalism Workshop – that fostered my passion for storytelling.

I’m Lashana Harney, or as most people call me, Shay.  I’m currently a news reporter and community journalist at the Winchester Sun and Winchester Living magazine. I have a deep passion for storytelling, community journalism, building and maintaining readership, and developing local newsrooms to be more digital focused.

I am Bluegrass born and raised from the small town of Paris, Kentucky. I am also a proud first-generation college student. I attended Western Kentucky University and graduated in 2017 with Highest Honors and a bachelor of arts in Public Relations with a minor in Chinese.

Previously, I led the College Heights Herald to win a Pacemaker during my tenure as Editor-In-Chief as well as a reclaiming our 1st place title as Best College Newspaper by the Kentucky Press Association. I have also won individual awards for feature and enterprise stories. I have previously interned at the Louisville Courier-Journal, part of the USA Today Network and Kentucky’s largest newspaper, Imagewest, WKU’s student-run Ad and PR agency, and the Lexington Herald-Leader, Kentucky’s second largest newspaper.

When I am not working, I am either napping, binge-watching my favorite shows, running/hiking a trail, playing with my pit bulls, Vader and Vandal, or spending time with my family.
